Ceiling fans cool a room by circulating air rather than lowering its temperature, using rotating blades driven by a DC or AC motor mounted to the ceiling. A modern 52-inch DC ceiling fan typically moves 12,000–14,000m³/h of air on a 30W motor — roughly a third of the running cost of an older AC equivalent for the same airflow.

Choosing a ceiling fan: quick answers

What size fan do I need? As a general guide, rooms up to around 12m² suit a 32–42" fan, while larger living and dining spaces (12–20m²) suit a 48–52" fan.

DC vs AC motors? DC motors use roughly 60–70% less energy than AC motors for the same airflow, run quieter, and offer finer speed control — most fans in this collection use a 30W DC motor.

Do I need a light kit? A fan with an integrated LED (typically 20W, tri-colour 3000K–6000K) can replace a separate ceiling light in bedrooms and living areas, saving an extra fixture and switch run.
