Frequently Asked Questions

  • An oyster light (also called a flush mount or close-to-ceiling light) is a ceiling fitting that sits directly against the ceiling surface with minimal drop — typically 5–15 cm. It's the most widely installed ceiling light in Australian homes because it suits standard ceiling heights of 2.4–2.7 m and works in every room from bedrooms and hallways to bathrooms and living areas

  • For a small bedroom or hallway, a 28–33 cm oyster light provides perfect general illumination. For a medium bedroom or living area (10–16 m²), choose a 35–45 cm fitting. For larger open-plan spaces (16 m²+), a 50 cm+ oyster light or multiple fittings in a grid will deliver even coverage.

  • Colour temperature depends on the room. For bedrooms and living rooms, choose 2700K–3000K (warm white) for a relaxing, residential feel. For kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries, 4000K (neutral white) improves visibility for task work. Many oyster lights in our range are 3CCT switchable, meaning you can toggle between warm, neutral, and cool white from a wall switch

  • Yes. LED oyster lights use up to 80% less energy than equivalent fluorescent fittings, last 25,000–50,000 hours compared to 8,000–10,000 hours for fluorescent, and contain no mercury. They also reach full brightness instantly with no warm-up delay.
